The Location

Freaghwood Cottage is ideally located at the South Eastern shoreline of Lough Derg. Lough Derg is the second-largest lake in Ireland and is the third-largest in the whole island of Ireland. The lake is the last of the three largest on the River Shannon, with the other two, Lough Ree and Lough Allen lying further north. At its deepest, the lake is 36 metres deep and covers an area of 118 km² (45.5 sq miles). The lake is a popular place for leisure boating, sailing and fishing. Freagwood Cottage is 2km from Portroe village, regarded as one of the finest lakeside locations in Tipperary, Ireland. The closest airport is Shannon Airport which is 50km away and is easily acccessible. Freaghwood Cottage is surrounded by a natural woodland area and one of our unique features is we have our own jetty for small boats (just 100 metres from the house)

Facilities

Freaghwood Cottage was built in 1993 and contains all modern amenities for a relaxing holiday in Ireland. Freaghwood Cottaege both central heating and a fireplace for those who would like to experience a warm fire. We have an outdoor stove which is ideal for grilling and bbq’s. The natural wood ceilings add to the homely comfort. Fishermen will appreciate the extensive fish cleaning room. Freaghwood Cottage is suitable for 4-6 persons. We also have a “granny flat” which is rented out on occasion please contact us with your group size. New free WLAN

Local Shopping

Portroe is located in the immediate vicinity, it’s only 2km from the House. Gleeson’s Spar Petrol station is great for grocery shopping and has almost everything you will require to enjoy your stay. Nenagh is a bigger town, with over 6000 people living there, for those looking for more. It has a variety of shops and many great pubs.

Local Area

You will be spoilt for choice in the Lough Derg area. The Tipperary mountains have some amazing panoramic views of the most beautiful Irish countryside you will ever see. Ireland is blessed with several historical castles and Bunratty castle is not to be missed. Castlelough National Forest Park is a must for walkers as well as Lough Derg of course, which is within 100 metres of the cottage. If you visit Bunratty Castle make sure you have a drink in “Durty Nelly’s”. Durty Nelly’s is one of Ireland’s most famous pubs and offers a truly unique Irish experience through its history and character. This truly unique piece of Irish heritage dates back to 1620.

Other areas worth visiting are Killaloe, Dromineer, Terry Glass, Garrykennedy, Scarriff, Mountshannon, etc. Freaghwood cottage is ideally located in central Ireland for though who want to embark on a day trips to one of the major Irish cities such as Limerick, Galway, Cork or Dublin. As you can see there is so much to see and do in Ireland, which will keep you coming back time and time again. Just like us!

Rates.

Our price are based on a weekly basis. As we are based in Swizterland for most of the year we have priced it in swiss francs. Please contact us for any questions you have.
Bed linen and towels are provided.
Keys can be collected on Saturdays or collection can be arrange please let us know your travel arrangements in advanced. We also include the use of a fishing boat with 9.9 hp. Outboard Engine.
